Armato, Avatar

My personal avatar is a camera. This is not because I particularly enjoy photography; I mean I've taken a picture before, and I can appreciated a skillfully captured moment, but I'm all but ignorant to the greater world of photography.

I chose a camera because it is a tool through which people observe. And I consider my tendency to observe one of my most dominating character traits. When I meet new people, I need to observe them before I fully interact with them. So I sort of stand behind a camera and watch, picking up on what they think is funny, what their taste in entertainment is, how they feel about themselves. Only then do I become engaged in a conversation or interaction.

Jonas' Avatar

Much like Marina Abramovich, my avatar is a performance artist. I am a 35-year-old woman, ethereal and fiercely introspective, replete with a rich inner life. I am a Pisces: emotionally fluid, impossible to capture and loose myself in moments of sublimity, often when encountering the earth’s natural beauty. My hair is long and thick; my eyebrows arched dramatically. I wear handmade clothes, voluminous and rich and deep in color. I travel the world to share my performative art by staging events to provoke social questions and make political statements. I eat onions raw and weep. I sleep on nails and bleed. I am a gypsy, a vagabond and am sought out by reporters who try to make sense of my work. I hold intensive workshops for eager and open students of performance art in a remote camp to teach them meditation and my work’s craft.

Christian- Fenwick, My Avatar

My avatar would be something like this because it is both beautiful, simple, and complex in one image. I believe it is hard for someone to be wholly defined by a single thing, nor should they have a single thing represent them because it turns them into a representation of themselves rather than their true self. This image, represents old souls, a connection with one's self, nature, and the rest of the world. That is what I aspire to do and incorporate into my life. I obviously want to be successful and be happy, but I also want to find ways to improve the lives of others and to create a life that is multi-dimensional and complex without being to chaotic or overly simplistic.

Yvonne Labbe's Avatar: Redwood Tree

My avatar is a young coast redwood tree. It's also called the sequoia and California redwood. The evergreen is a member of the cypress family.

I grew up around redwoods as a native northern Californian. And after living in Louisiana for a year, I’ve found that besides my best friend, trees are what I miss most about home.

Redwoods and I seem to have similar needs and life philosophies. The trees prefer full sun, but can survive in shaded areas. One of my favorite pastimes is lying outside during the daytime. Redwoods like mild, rainy winters and dry summers. I appreciate rain, but not too much of it. The afternoon downpours and quick floods in Louisiana aggravate me. The redwood is also monoecious. I too, am comfortable with gender neutrality.

The tree represents what I want to be. It’s fast growing, adding 3 to 6 feet per year. I want to be constantly learning and expanding my mind and abilities as well. Redwoods can get up to 300 feet tall and live up to 2,200 years old. I want to mature into something great and impacting. Redwoods are home to birds, reptiles, amphibians, and endangered species. I want to be accommodating to a diverse group, especially those in need.

I see myself as a redwood seedling right now. I’m in college, loosely planning where to set my roots down. Hopefully I’ll settle in a climate conducive to growth, in a natural forest or preserve rather than by the freeway or in a private lumber farm. I'd rather enjoy and contribute to my environment. Like the trees, I don't think I was born to be cut down.

Villavicencio-Avatar

My avatar would be Giada De Laurentiis, an Italian American chef, writer, television personality, and the host of the current Food Network program “Giada at Home.” She also founded the catering business GDL Foods, and previously hosted two other Food Network shows known as “Giada's Weekend Getaways” and “Everyday Italian.”
To begin with, I felt Giada to be the perfect choice given our shared passions for cooking, writing, and health. Giada attended Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School (one of my dreams) and developed into a remarkable chef. She now shares recipes which maintain a happy medium between delicious and healthy. She has also published four cook books, one each year since 2006.
Another positive trait about Giada is that although she is a well-recognized TV personality and chef, she is famous for talent, success, and an inviting personality rather than her looks or partying. In short, Her fame is genuine and humble.
She is also married (to a designer for anthropology none the less) and has with one child. Yet she still manages to host her own show, stay out of negative media, and continue to be immensely successful. In addition to her TV program and catering business, she is also the spokeswoman for the pasta manufacturer Barilla, a food stylist for Food and Wine Magazine, and recently released her own line of kitchen supplies.
Although I don’t necessarily see myself as a “Food Network Star” type, I relate to Giada in the way she has been wildly successful, while also prioritizing her family (something that becomes quite obvious when watching her show), and constantly pursues her passions. She has a clear idea of what she loves, something realized at a young age, and has developed an enviable lifestyle out of it.

Fisher: Avatar

My avatar is an sports figure-turned politician.  After breaking records and winning championships in two major sports leagues at a young age, he decided to retire early and pursue other facets of life.  The next two years of his life are spent in Tibet with the Dali Lama.  Upon his return to society he announced his ideas for reform and his intentions of running for office.  The public was eager to see change and he won the ensuing election in a landslide.

During his years in office he solved major political disputes, brought democracy to six more countries, cured cancer (by allowing stem cell research), put out two platinum albums, and killed the devil.

Tiger Woods

However, we have to keep in mind that this is a sports figure/politician that does have his faults and three marriages, two mistresses, and one divorce.  But the people love him for all of his faults and accomplishments.  And he returned their love by winning the first interstellar war as commander and chief of the earth's armed forces.  For this he was awarded the moon, which he turned into a luxury low-gravity resort and golf course.

In his later years he bought three teams from professional sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB) and moved them all to Las Vegas where he built his stadium/casino that could host all three teams at the same time in one night.  This is where he lived out the rest of his days attending luncheons, meetings and the occasional strip club.

Phillpott--My Avatar

My avatar is a famous writer who publishes at least six books a year. They are all bestsellers, and she is very rich from them. Her books have been published in over seventy-four languages and one hundred and twenty countries. She has dedicated her life to charitable works, and because of her popularity she has raised a lot of money for those in need.

She graduated with a degree in English with a concentration in Writing from a great university where she also graduated with honors. She published her first book a week after she graduated college and has been writing ever since. All of her friends work for her so they have great pay and work light schedules.

She travels most of the year and has houses in many different cities around the world. She is fluent in twelve different languages. She has a pilot license, and is a skydiving enthusiast. She takes life as it comes, but enjoys every minute that she can.

People aspire to be like her. She is often asked to give motivational speeches, even though she used to be nervous about speaking in public. Now she is very confident in herself and everything she does. She has been on the cover of many magazines, and has several friends in the entertainment and fashion industries.

She is engaged to be married in six months. Her fiancé supports her in everything she does. He owns his own successful company and is able to travel with her all year long.

My avatar enjoys writing her books, and is just happy that she has been successful at what she loves to do. She never loses sight of reality and is still very down-to-earth.

Himmelberg - My Own Avatar

My avatar is a successful actress and singer ,who is the star of a broadway musical. She sticks to theatre (no movies or releasing popular albums). She has been trained classically, which means her voice is very professional and she can sing a wide range of types of music not just showtunes. She went to NYU for voice and acting, training with very prestigious teachers and singing many soprano arias, but her passion was for the theatre. She got her big break about a year after college at the young age of 22 and has been doing it for 6 years now. She is very confident and beautiful, but not arogant at all. She simply loves to entertain, so being on stage night after night is amazing and never gets old. Right before every show she still gets butterfly's in her stomach and once it is all over she is still running on that adrenaline high that you can only get from performing live in a broadway theatre in one of biggest cities in the world. To her it is simply amazing that she can do something that she is so passionate about and people will sit and be captivated by her voice and the story her songs weave. Out of college she lived downtown in a loft with a bunch of other aspiring actors and musicians, one of whom is her now fiance. Since then she has moved with him into an upper west side apartment on central park west. When she gets off or in between jobs she loves to spend time in Montauk in a little cottage they rent right on the ocean. She also volunteers in schools in harlem and other poor neighborhoods teaching music and acting to kids, trying to educate and inspire them to be whatever they can be. She loves the downtown nightlife scene where she goes after many performances with her friends and fellow castmates. She has also toured all around europe and even to japan with a few different musicials and theatre troupes when they went on tour.

My Personal Avatar

A head phone with loaded bullets would be the best avatar for me because my avatar is music. These headphones perfectly describe the power of music. Music is the gun that shoots the bullets (songs) to affect the world. A gun is not the direct cause of an act; it's the person holding the gun. Steadily grasping the grip of the gun, the artist uses the music to express his own ideas and feelings.

When I listen to music, I feel as if I am right there with the artists as the song was being recorded. Music is like a time capsule where I can visit my different moods, journeying through my mind. It may sound selfish, but, when music is playing through my headphone, I internalize the music vibrations and forget everyone else.

Villacreces: Time Traveler Avatar

It's always been a dream of mine to be able to travel through time. In my fictional world, my avatar would be being a time traveller super star film director. My movies and videos are different, original and awesome due to the fact that I travel through time to get real and awesome footage for them. For example the time that I had to film a movie about a rock and roll band in the 80's. I was able to film them, film real fans and film the environment that the band lived in. The movie won best picture of the year because the footage looked real and there was not a big budget I had to create this movie. Being a time traveler has its advantages. I can go back in time to change what I say or what my friends do. The reason why I can travel though time is due to my time turner (yes like the one Hermione has in Harry Potter).
My carrier has been really successful because I have been able to use my powers in a good way, and not in a wrong way. But I often enjoy going back and enjoying beaches and places before they were ruined my people and hotels.

Hales- Avatars

I would choose Gilda Radner as my avatar because I have always thought if I could be anyone else, it would be her. Radner was one of the most brilliant and hilarious women to ever write and perform on Saturday Night Live.

One of the things that I like most about Gilda is her ability to do anything to make people happy. She went to great lengths for a laugh, ranging from shoving alphabet soup up her nose to dressing herself up in some of the most unattractive getups imaginable. I especially respect her ability to alter her appearance to such epic proportions for entertainment, and on live television at that. Most women would obsess over having every perfect hair in place and she was mussing herself up for fun.

One of Gilda’s characters, Candy Slice, is based on another one of my favorite female entertainers, Patti Smith. In the Candy Slice skits Gilda would color in armpit hair and pass out on stage, which does the job to get a laugh.

Gilda was married to another amazing comedian, Gene Wilder. I can only imagine that theirs was one of the most exciting marriages ever. After her death from ovarian cancer, Wilder did everything he could to raise awareness for the disease.

Although she has stated that she dealt with image issues when she was younger she clearly overcame them. Throughout her career she blossomed into an incredibly confident woman who was unconcerned with image and focused on creating characters who made people laugh at the expense of conventional beauty. I think that this made her one of the most beautiful women to ever live.
