Olivia TuckerMise En Scene: E.S.O.T.S.M

eternal1.jpg

This image is from the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The dominant in this scene is the huge crack in the ice. its right where your eyes go to when looking at the picture. Also it makes you wonder why they are laying near such an unstable part of the ice. The crack is obviously foreshadowing troubles to come for the couple through out the film. Which is true in the film Clementine and Joel go through much tribulation, starting when Clementine gets Joel erased from her memory.

The lighting in this scene is very contrasted. I think so that the ice looks even whiter and so that the cracks in the ice can appear even whiter. The lighting also emphasizes Clementines blue hair especially in contrast to the white ice beneath her.

The character proximic in this scene is public. Although Clementine and Joel are close together from the viewer viewpoint they would feel like they are looking in on the scene which would be different from a social or personal proximity.

Heres a trailer for the movie
