Nolley-Bladerunner

In Bladerunner, the replicants are no longer allowed on earth and have been forced to move to the off world colonies and work. If replicants are found on earth they are immediately “terminated”. These are androids that were made by corporations on earth, but they are so unwanted and mistreated. The question is, if the replicants are such a problem, then why were they ever created? Creating them has caused a huge problem within the replicant community, in that they just want the right to exist and are being denied that. Not only has the creation of replicants sprouted many problems, but the Tyrell Corporation continues to improve them and make them seem more human. This leads to the problem that perhaps these androids are actually more human than they’re thought to be. While the replicants are mistreated throughout the film, the little people of earth are also widely mistreated. They are like the scum of the planet. The film helps capture the idea that the little people are the trash of earth by how the world looks. The trash live in the trashy areas and the biggest and best live in the most amazing buildings. Tyrell is literally at the top of the pyramid. The makers of this film did an amazing job at capturing the reality of this world and like Adam Savage says, “it’s a lived-in science fiction-- a workaday world.” This is so true. You connect with the characters and realize what is happening because you can accept that this world is possible. It is not all silver suits and tube travel, but actual human potential to destroy the world as we know it. This film is so compelling because the audience can imagine these events coming to fruition.

  1. Great You Tube of Roy Batty. He has memories that will die with him because he has no children. Do memories make us human? Tyrell Corporation makes replicants "more human than human." What does that really mean?
